The Royal Regiment of Scotland (SCOTS) is to be awarded the freedom of Argyll and Bute in recognition of its service to the local community.
The honour was approved by councillors following a request from the Lieutenancy of Argyll and Bute.
Formed in 2006, the Royal Regiment of Scotland is the amalgamation of the country鈥檚 six historic infantry regiments, including the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, formed in 1881, have a long association with Argyll and Bute, and the regiment was itself granted the Freedom of the region in 1979 by what was then Argyll and Bute District Council.
That historic legacy continues to be honoured within SCOTS today. The regiment maintains a strong relationship with the people of Argyll and Bute, participating in community activities including local events and educational initiatives and offering support for the area鈥檚 veterans and their families.
Councillor Mark Irvine, Policy Lead for Corporate 国产视频, said: 鈥淐onferring the Freedom of the county is one of the highest honours a council can bestow, signifying mutual respect and recognition of exceptional service.
鈥淚n its submission to the Provost of Argyll and Bute, the Lieutenancy cited values such as dedication, courage and community which are synonymous with SCOTS.
鈥淭he decision to grant the Freedom of Argyll and Bute to the regiment will be warmly welcomed across Argyll and Bute and is much deserved recognition for its historical significance and the continuing contribution SCOTS makes to our communities.鈥
